St. Antony's Chapel, Poothole

A busy shrine of St. Antony on Poothole Road, on land that once served as the West Church's cemetery.

Photo to come

St. Antony’s Chapel stands on Poothole Road and is described in the book as a lively shrine of the saint. Locally it is also called the Poothole kurishupalli (chapel of the cross).

A cemetery, then a shrine

The ground has its own history. In the years when Aranattukara had two rival churches, this was where the West Church buried its dead. The plot is generous, a little under three acres, which gives the chapel an open, spacious setting.

Prayer here

The book records that Mass is said here every day. Around the saint’s feast there is a litany, a daily novena and a votive feast.

We have not yet listed Mass times or the feast date, because we want to confirm them locally first. If you can help, or if you remember the chapel’s earlier days, please get in touch.
