What we know

The book has only a short note about St. Ann’s. It was founded by the CMC sisters, the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel, to give the girls of northern Aranattukara a school close to home. It later grew into a high school. The sisters now also run a self-financing women’s college, Nirmala College, a few minutes’ walk west at the Chungam junction.

The CMC is one of the congregations that St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara helped to found, the same saint who founded the Elthuruth Ashram on the western edge of the parish. So in a sense the two ends of Aranattukara owe schools to the same man’s vision of “a school for every church”.
